Hearth and Home: A Resembool Zine is a non-profit fan-zine centering the friendships and familial relationships between Edward, Alphonse, and Winry from Fullmetal Alchemist/Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood.

Application Guidelines

PAGE/COVER ARTIST APPLICANTSPlease submit three (3) samples that best demonstrate your artistic abilities. We strongly prefer samples that are fully colored/rendered and that have backgrounds. Works submitted will be reviewed for composition, anatomy, coloring, rendering, and backgrounds. Fullmetal Alchemist samples are encouraged, but not required. Please include what you consider to be your best works in your samples!All samples must be SFW, aside from canon-typical elements found in Fullmetal Alchemist (e.g., violence, body horror elements, trauma, etc.)You may provide an optional portfolio (e.g., a Twitter Media tab, Tumblr tag, a Google Drive folder, a website, etc.). Please keep in mind that given the volume of applications, the mod team might not be able to review portfolios in depth, so please submit your best works within the required samples.MERCH ARTIST APPLICANTSPlease submit three (3) samples that best demonstrate your abilities to create merchandise. We would like to see at least one sample of a merch design in your samples. Works submitted will be reviewed for anatomy, coloring, rendering, and merch design. Works submitted will be reviewed for syntax, prose, characterization, and style. At least one sample must be a completed story within the word count; the others may be excerpts if you wish. Fullmetal Alchemist samples are encouraged, but not required. Please include what you consider to be your best works of creative fiction in your samples!Please submit samples anonymously through shareable Google Docs links; this means removing identifiable information from your samples, such as names, social media/AO3 handles, etc.. Please double-check that the links are shareable (such as pasting the link into an incognito browser window). If we cannot access your works, we unfortunately will not be able to consider them.All samples must be SFW, aside from canon-typical elements found in Fullmetal Alchemist (e.g., violence, body horror elements, trauma, etc.).You may provide an optional portfolio (e.g., an AO3 account, a Google Drive folder, etc.). Please keep in mind that the mod team will primarily focus on the anonymous samples, and that given the volume of applications, the mod team might not be able to review portfolios in depth. Moderator Team

Sri (she/her) - Co-organizer, Writing & Social MediaA tired healthcare worker with a love for zines, critical analysis, crying over characters, and bubble tea. She has modded Head & Heart: An Arankita Zine (writing moderator) and has contributed to close to twenty (20) zines as a writer. For Hearth & Home, she will be coordinating with writers for check-ins, beta-ing their pieces, assisting with social media, and providing other support as needed. Her favorite FMA character is hands-down Winry, although Lan Fan does come a close second (ending to episode 47, anyone??).

They have modded a few recent projects, including The Great Turnabout! (writing & support moderator), CODA (writing moderator), and A New Trial Is In Session! (writing moderator). For Hearth & Home, she’ll be keeping track of contributor check-ins, compiling & sending out newsletters, and providing general support to everyone else on the moderator team. **Téa (they/them) - Shipping & Production **A nocturnal writer with a minor merch buying problem. They’ve modded over ten other projects, including being the lead mod for Silver Lining and Lion Lilies, and has participated as a contributor in over thirty zines. For Hearth & Home, they’ll be packing and shipping everyone’s orders, and making sure they get where they need to be safely! Their favorite FMA character is Alphonse, quickly followed by Riza and Winry.

Teddy (he/him) - Graphic Design & LayoutA sleepy artist from the UK who’s really into zines and napping. He has helped mod a few zines and was head mod for Roots: An Orufrey zine, RWBY Couture, PRISM and Afternoon Tea and Layout mod for Drawing Fate: A Witch Hat Atelier Tarot Deck. For Hearth & Home he will be in charge of graphic design and formatting the zine. His favorite FMA character is Alphonse, but Riza is a close second.

What is a zine?
A "zine" is an original, fanmade, non-commercial anthology of original work inspired by a certain theme. Zines are typically produced in small batches and only sold for a limited time.Will this zine be spoiler-free?
We anticipate that this zine will contain spoilers for the Brotherhood anime (2009). Hearth & Home may have spoilers for other FMA media (like the light novels, movies, manga, etc.), but this will be determined after our Interest Check and the beginning of the creation period. You do not need to have watched the Brotherhood anime in its entirety to apply — however, bear in mind that the zine will contain Brotherhood spoilers.How will moderators keep in contact with contributors?Upon acceptance, contributors will receive a link to the zine’s Discord server. It is mandatory to join the server, as this is where the mod team will post updates throughout the zine’s creation, production, and fulfillment periods.Is this a physical zine?We are currently planning for a physical run. This will depend on our reception during the Interest Check period. If the mod team determines that there is not enough interest to proceed with a physical run of the zine, we will likely proceed as a digital-only, charity zine.Is this zine safe-for-work (SFW)?Yes, this zine will be SFW.Can I apply for multiple roles?Yes, but please keep in mind that you will only be selected for one role.How will contributors be compensated?Contributors are guaranteed a digital copy of the zine. After production and shipping costs, we hope to provide contributors with a full, physical bundle, inclusive of shipping. This will depend heavily on our sales numbers during the preorder period.Do you plan to invite guest contributors?Yes, we plan to invite a small number of guest contributors.
